FUEL AND CO. LANDS IN NUNDAH
t seems no Brisbane suburb is complete without at least one hidden gem of a café in its midst these days and Nundah is the latest to get a breakfast spot the locals swarm to on a Sunday morning. Fuel & Co has taken over 190 Buckland Street with great food, a friendly vibe and a shady courtyard which you can happily spend a lazy few hours in, chowing down on delicious eats and drinks.
Walking in past the bright yellow sun chairs and waiting at the counter to order, you’ll be hard-pressed to resist the bench in front, laden with sweet treats like scones, muffins, rocky road and chocolate slice, which are made fresh daily in-house. But if you’re willpower prevails (or you just get them to takeaway) you can order from the menu of classic brekkys, like an egg, bacon, lettuce and tomato relish BLT, the eggs benedict with braised pork or the sweet berry hotcake. Half pancake, half muffin (seriously – it’s at least as thick as three pancakes) the hotcake is sure to be a café favourite.
For lunch, the options get a little more creative, with a kaarage burger on a black brioche bun, Atlantic salmon tortillas and braised beef shortribs. And because it’s lunch, you can acceptably finish things off with one of those baked treats. Brownies, anyone? If it’s just sweet afternoon drinks you’re after, milkshakes like the cherry ripe, honeycomb and choc-peanut butter will be resistible to kids and parents alike, though there is Di Bella coffee on offer if it’s caffeine you need. In a few months, owners plan to add evenings to their opening hours, with tapas, charcuterie and cheese available with beer and wine. A definite bonus if you live in the area and want to be able to stumble home on a Saturday night. Until then, Fuel & Co is open 7 days a week from 6.30am-4pm.
